Some of the funding raised by the No Laughing Matter comedians will be used by Act4Africa to set up more Life Clubs (like the one in the photos). Here our Africans teams deliver Train the Trainer Programmes to key influencers in schools (headboys/girls/junior teachers/sports captains/drama students etc). The Programme teaches them how to deliver workshops in:
* Aids Prevention
After a school year our Aids Education team withdraw leaving the school team able to teach the programme to up and coming children in the school. Act4Africa's employees then return every term to help refresh the programme, update it with the latest drama and sports materials once a term, but primarily it is about young Africans teaching young Africans and enabling their own schools and communities to live healthy lives.
Setting up Life Clubs like this enables us to reach a far wider network of people and has made a tremendous difference to the communities where they operate. Their success can also be measured by the increase in knowledge, change in behaviour and the amount of people coming forward for VCT (Voluntary Counselling and Testing) when take the test trucks into communities. Sex, and Aids in particular, is such a taboo subject that very few people used to come forward for free testing for fear of the community rejecting them just because they were testing for Aids. Now, we do 100's of tests in every community that we operate and often run out of test kits (there are only so many we can afford for each community).
